Sonic Youth - American rock band formed in New York in 1981. Now a group - Thurston Moore (vocals and guitar), Lee Ranaldo (vocals and guitar), Kim Gordon (vocals, bass, guitar), Mark Aybold (bass) and Steve Shelley (drums). Having started his career in the direction of No Wave, a group later went to work in a wide stylistic range, while maintaining loyalty to the "noise" aesthetics of Velvet Underground and Stooges, but enriching it elements of performance art, post-punk and avant-garde.
