Genesis DVD - Live at Wembley Stradium (2008)
The band formed in late 1960, when its founders, Tony Banks and Peter Gabriel attended a private school Charterhouse in the English town of Godalming. The original lineup was assembled out of school groups, the Garden Wall and the anon, it included Gabriel (vocals), Anthony Phillips (guitarist), Banks (keyboards), Rutherford (bass guitar, guitar) and Chris Stewart (drums) . Genesis recorded their first album From Genesis to Revelation in 1969, when they were discovered by Jonathan King, a graduate of the successful single, Everyone's Gone to the Moon. It gave the group the name of Genesis (in the lane. From English. - Creating, creation, the Book of Genesis). He recalled that "thought it was a good name ... it entailed the creation of new sounds and new sensations". The album was released on Decca Records. During recording, Stewart went off and his place taken by John Silver. The band recorded a set of songs with a slight pop sound inspired by Bee Gees, one of King's favorite bands, and The Beatles. King has collected songs in a concept album, and with intelligence added to the arrangement of the string section. The first single, The Silent Sun was released in February 1968. The album sold poorly, but on the advice of King's group decided not to launch a music career. King still has the rights to the album From Genesis to Revelation, and periodically reissue it under various names, including In the Beginning, Where the Sour Turns to Sweet, Rock Roots: Genesis, ... And the Word Was, and the most recent version, The Genesis of Genesis.
